Many people have asked me why there are two platforms in web hosting industry: Linux Web Hosting and Windows Web Hosting, and more importantly, which one should they choose when comes to hosting their website. In this blog, I want to share some of my ideas and hopefully by the end of this blog, you will find it is actually very easy to make this decision.

In current web hosting industry, 80% of hosting servers are Unix/Linux based especially big corporate servers. It is simply because UNIX servers are more secure, stable and efficient. Windows servers generally are easy to use but less efficient. When I say efficient, I mean a similar UNIX server can host more users than windows. For php developer or php web site owner, choose Linux web hosting.
My favorite two are which is one of the best in web hosting industry and IXWebHosting which is one of the cheapest with fairly solid service.

For asp, developer or web site owner, choose Windows because only windows support asp or

If your web site is not US based, you will need to consider a host provider in that country too. Because generally, if your website audiences are UK, then you should get a UK web hosting provider such as If your website audiences are Canada, then you should consider a Canadian web hosting providers such as

So, does this post make your decision easier? Hopefully it did. Enjoy building your new website then!
